Maui Day 2, June 27

Aloha to another perfect day on Maui!
Again we were on the road early... our destination today was Lahaina; a pretty little historical town just 25 minutes up the coast from Kihei, where our condo is. Lahaina was a whaling town years ago but now it is pretty much a tourist town. There are TONS of shops and things to see and do. Most of it is centred down near the wharf and the Banyan tree. This tree was planted in 1873 and the way it grows is that the limbs have roots that grow downward. After time they touch the ground and it grows as a new tree...sending out limbs that will also start a new tree. So you can see the mother tree and then all these other trees around it. It stands 60 feet high and shades almost an acre. The picture is below.
After some time just walking and enjoying the area we stopped for some good ice cream... well let me tell you it had better been good since it set us back about $20.00 for 6 scoops (2 each)!
On the beautiful coastal drive back we took a little detour to a fruit plantation (mostly to see pineapples but we got to see a lot more). The tour guide, picture below, was great, funny has hell and knew her stuff. That was one of the highlights so far. We took a cart like train through the plantation and saw many fruit trees, flowers etc.
Above seemed like a long day, right? But we were home about 2:00pm. Spent the rest of the day at the beach just a 60 second walk from our unit. The waves were up a bit so we took the boogie boards out...LOTS OF FUN.... and well some sun on the face, too... don't worry not a bad burn just a healthy look (well if you are not a dermatologist it's healthy looking)
After a quick BBQ we were off to a bar/restaurant for half price appetizers and drinks. A picture of one of the dishes, coconut shrimp, is below. The food was all so good there! Thanks for the tip Don and Nancy!
Well another day as zoomed on by and another day to enjoy paradise!
