Hana is a small town on the other coast from where we are. The road to get there is about 50 miles but because the road is so narrow and winding, it takes a long time to get there. Plus there is so much natural beauty and things to see along the way, one must stop often.
At times the drive is not for the faint of heart since you are almost touching passing cars and the other side of the car can be FAR down.
We took some time to enjoy a road side stand that has the best banana bread (voted on by someone).
Things we viewed along our route... firstly lots of these mink looking things. Found out later they are mongoose which were introduced to the Islands to kill the rats. It was one of those stupid mistakes since rats are out at night and mongoose prefer the daytime. We saw lots of tropical rain forests on our route as well lots of fruit trees.
We went in side some lava tubes (old dried up lava caves). Took some time to watch a blow hole near the ocean. But the waves were not that big so there wasn't much of a spray.
On our trek home, we stopped to watch some wind surfers enjoying the high winds and HUGE waves and also at a pineapple field. (picture below) Did you know pineapples... "they don't grow on the trees, they don't grow in the ground, they grow on the ground, in the center of the crown" (as sung by our Plantation tour guide.. her own "Dole" jingle)
