Turks and Caicos Island - June 25 to July 9, 2011

Firstly... if you would like to be e-mailed automatically every time we post something on our Blog, please let me know at fperry@nbnet.nb.ca

Well here we are on the count down to another trip.  Life really is about seeing our world and well we are trying to do just that!

The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory consisting of two groups of tropical islands in the West Indies, the larger Caicos Islands and the smaller Turks Islands, known for tourism and as an offshore financial centre.

The Turks and Caicos Islands lie southeast of the Bahamas and north of the island of Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic). The islands have a total land area of 430 square kilometres. The total population is about 45,000, of whom approximately 22,500 live on Providenciales in the Caicos Islands. Cockburn Town, the capital, is on Grand Turk Island.

Some of you may remember that many times over the years the Turks and Caicos Islands proposed a union with Canada.  For more information check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turks_and_Caicos_Islands

Some quick info…
·         The average temperature in June/July (when we are there) is a day time high of 29 and a night time low of 24.
·         90% of the population are black and the other 10% is mixed white.
·         English is the official language but many speak the local Creole along with French/Spanish
·         Currency is the US dollar
·         They drive on the left (oh great that should be fun, although Australia was easy enough!)

So why would we want to come here? How about white powdery-sand beaches, clear blue water, immaculate reefs and a climate that defines divine. Secluded bays and islands where you’ll see more wild donkeys than other travelers. Historic towns and villages that look like something out of a pirate movie, where life creeps along at a sedate pace.  (The above was taken from a few places... those at work will freak out that I didn't quote the sources but so what I'm on vacation)
A few pictures before we arrive…
