July 2 - Trip to the BIG Island

We started our trip to Kona, on the BIG Island, by boarding an 8 passenger commuter plane. It actually was a newer looking plane and the flight was smooth. The terminal on the other had offered us a different experience. Our luggage wasn't scanned at the 'counter'. Since one piece of luggage was a bit over, we were each weighed with our carry on. The pilot escorted us to the plane, placed our carry on luggage in storage under the plane and he was the flight attendant (a jack of all trades), but we didn't get any snacks or drinks since he was flying the plane hehe.

Once we picked up our new Ford Focus, still with new the smell, we started out for our condo, "White Sands". We did a quick tour of our new surroundings, bought some groceries and had lunch at Bongo Ben's. I have to say, I, Greg, had the BEST burger ever!!

Our condo is BEAUTIFUL. It's well decorated with island theme art, nice furniture, and huge balcony, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living and dining area BUT no Air conditioning. Man it is hot (sorry to all you guys who are reading this and wishing for heat). We do have ceiling fans everywhere and one floor fan that just sits there. Oh well, we're only here for 4 days.. we will survuve the heat... Oops, sorry guys, I had to say it. I know you have had lots of rain and little sunshine.

The beaches here, from what we've seen and heard, are not the greatest. Many have no sand beaches, only lava rocks. The waves are HIGH! We did hear last night that a near by beach is one of the 10 best in the world so we will definitely visit it soon.

We'll report back later on Kona as we explore more today. We like to hear back from you. If you have problems writing comments, email us at moffitt@nbnet.nb.ca We like reading your comments!

Have a good one!

  1. Today is Thursday, and it is SUNNY AND WARM. Oh my gosh we don't know what to do with ourselves it has been so long since we have had heat. However, we don't have beaches with high waves, and turtles, and lava rocks, and we certainly don't have Francis, Gregg and Mike. Your trip sounds absolutely lovely and we are all looking forward to hearing all the details you can't write about on your blog. We are missing you and wish you a safe journey home. Sharon S.
